THE RELIGIOUS ORGANISATION JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS IN
GUYANA continues to support the country’s health sector in a major way Director of
Communication, Mr. Latchman Bharrat told www.aroundtheregions.com during an exclusive
recent interview.
“We are very pleased with the response that we have received from the people and government.
We have a very big wheelchair project that we usually do in Guyana and this goes directly to the
Government who handles it. Sometimes we give over 300 or 500 wheelchairs. Whatever is the
cause at the time, we try our very best to meet for the benefit of the Guyanese populace,” Mr.
Bharrat said.
When Padmini Mc Cray lost her leg due to a medical error at the COVID Hospital at Liliendall,
East Coast Demerara, her relatives shared her plight with the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint
Church and the organisation readily made a wheelchair available to the amputee.
“I did receive a call. I remembered that I had a relative there and he personally got involved and
ensure that she (Padmini Mc Cray) got the wheelchair (from) the closest church in their area,”
Bharrat explained.
“It gives us motivation to continue giving. Service to humanity is service to God and it does
inspire us,” Bharrat said.
He pledged his organisation’s continued support to the people of Guyana during the ongoing
pandemic.
“I will not tell any organisation how they should operate as I know that there are many
organisations from varying religious and faith backgrounds who have been reaching out and
doing similar work like us. Take the CIOG (Central Islamic Organistaion of Guyana) they have
been doing a great lot and there are others who are doing likewise.  However, what I can say to

those that can do more is that Service is the best policy and the best example that we can ever
lead by is through humanity,” the communications director declared.
