BREAKING – Amna confident Her ‘Pitbull’ Will win PNC leadership

PNC Leader, David Granger & PNC GS, Amna Ally

PEOPLES NATIONAL CONGRESS (PNC) GENERAL SECRETARY AMNA ALLY
BELIEVES PARTY LEADER DAVID GRANGER WILL WIN REELECTION whenever
Congress is held.
“There can be many dogs in a race but I can tell you that the pit bull will eventually win. Many
dogs can run the race but the pit bull will win,” Ally repeated for emphasis in a telephone
interview with www.aroundtheregions.com.
Granger has been heavily criticised for his handling of the 2020 National and Regional polls
which his A Party for National Unity, Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) government lost to
the now-ruling Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) coalition.
Angry party supporters demand the former soldier step down as leader to make way for a new
cadre of younger people at the helm of the 64-year-old party and head it into a challenging and
uncertain future.
While Ally is singing the praises of her certainly-victorious ‘pit bull’ she is antsy on issues of
Congress where leadership are selected in a transparent process. Party supporters feel strongly
that Ally, among others, is using the current deadly global COVID-19 pandemic as excuse to
avert the democratic process.
“Let me ask you a question: As a member of the media why are you folks so concerned about
PNC internal business as to when and if it will convene its congress. When its congress we will
tell the world,” Ally said.
“We have a serious situation.
“Do you recognise that every day the numbers are increasing?” she asked.
In Guyana, 227 persons have died from the Corona Virus and some 8,800 have recovered from
the 10,000-odd infected here in the pandemic.

Ally promised that “at the right time the date” details for holding of Congress will be publicised.
“We haven’t made a decision and we are waiting to see how things are unfolding,” the PNC
official said.
She disagreed that withholding details about the uncertain Congress is a delaying tactic crafted to
benefit the incumbent, Granger.
Ally also rubbished criticisms that the PNC decision makers are assisting the former President to
cement his stranglehold on the party’s leadership since coming in as runner-up at the disputed
2020 polls.
Asked whether her comments suggest that the septuagenarian Granger will be contesting for
reelection, Ally retorted lasciviously, “I didn’t sleep with him last night so he didn’t wake up to
tell me that this morning.”
Experienced politicians interpret Ally’s statement as overt endorsement of Granger and a
warning to ambitious members who might be musing throwing their hats into the ring to contest
the polls and also challenge Mr. Joseph Harmon, who currently holds the position of Leader of
the parliamentary Opposition and seems to be garnering significant support through Ms. Ally, a
pugnacious politician.
Meanwhile, in a recent social media post, PNC members expressed unease how Ally, Granger
and Harmon are treating the more than 200,000 constituents who voted solidly for the party in
March 2020.
“PNC General Secretary Amna Ally cannot disrespect 200, 000 plus supporters of our Party by
releasing a public statement that is not reflective of our national support base and all executive
members of the PNC. Ms. Ally is hereby put on notice to revoke such outrageous statement that
is not reflective of the desire of the Party and supporters. The General Secretary cannot tell the
press that because of the pandemic it is impossible to hold Congress (scheduled for next month)
this year. What is maddening is the fact that she has the audacity to also utter publicly that there
isn’t even a timeframe anywhere in the future for the holding of Congress,” the social media
message said.
The believe Congress can be held virtually or at an open spacious venue that can hold thousands,
yet adhere to CORONA VIRUS protocols.

“But the truth is, the General Secretary is grandstanding on this most urgent event that is
important to the deciding of the right leadership that will make the Party viable in its quest to
holding the PPP government accountable and removing it at the next elections,” they said in the
conversation.
“This dictatorial action by Mr. Granger and Mr. Harmon ventilated through the General
Secretary is deplorable and unacceptable and an insult to our supporters and their cry for a
change of leadership in the party. This old time ridiculous socialist practice in the Party will not
be accepted in this modern age. Black people are fed up with the current workings of the Party
and the pressure they have faced by weak leadership in and out of government,” it concluded.
PNC Chairman, and former Minister of Public Health, Mrs. Volda Lawrence, cannot be
reached by telephone for any comment on any matter since demitting office last year.
