Jubilant supporters greeted PM Dr Drew on his first day at work

JUBILANT SUPPORTERS THRONGED recently-sworn in Dr. Terrance Drew as he showed
up for his first official day of work as St. Kitts and Nevis new Prime Minister.
Dr Drew’s St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) ousted the three-party coalition ‘Team
Unity’ of Dr Timothy Harris which ruled, but wearied, the twin-island Federation with its foray
into an assortment of alleged public malfeasance and complaints became increasingly louder
especially after its 2020 electoral triumph.
Before heading to Church Street, the seat of the St Kitts and Nevis government administration,
PM Drew paid a courtesy call on Governor General, Sir Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton.
The new prime minister was mobbed by emotional supporters and elated well-wishes who
gathered to greet their respective elected representatives.
Tears of joy flowed freely from some of the crowd while others offered prayers and encouraging
words for PM Drew to lead the CARICOM state away from the seven-year path of destruction
they endured under Harris’ stewardship.
Dr. Drew assured them this was so, and reiterated one of his campaign promises.
“St Kitts and Nevis is open for business and persons are free to visit and enter whenever they so
desire. We will return this country to the glorious days of growth, development and achievement
I have instructed that the former regulation be removed immediately,” Drew said.
He was of course referring to a Harris diktat instructing nationals to seek permission in writing to
him to re-enter Basseterre following the outbreak of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
The pandemic which started in Wuhan, China, has so far killed 6.4 million globally and 46 in St
Kitts and Nevis.
Drew, a highly-trained medical specialist, remains mystified, he said, about the scientific
rationale behind his predecessor’s vexing decision.
The Prime Minister also met with staff of his new office and several senior government officials
before conducting his first Cabinet meeting.

A usually-reliable source has confirmed that PM Drew hasn’t yet named any of his ministers of
government, but is expected to do so by Friday.
“He hasn’t announced anything, and from all appearances, he is taking his time in naming the
respective ministers. I foresee it happening by Thursday or Friday this week. He is ensuring that
the appropriate appointments are made, as outside of ministers, he will also make several senior
government appointments,” the source said.
The new ministers will then take their oath of office by Saturday, the source said.
Former PM Dr. Harris of the People’s Labour Party (PLP), and Mr. Shawn Richards of
the People’s Action Movement (PAM) will be the opposition legislators for the next five
years.
