When the CURE is WORSE than the DISEASE

For Regional Chairman Mr. Deron Adams, the government’s cure to help halt the spread of the contagious and deadly COVID-19 pandemic is worse than the viral disease itself. “I do not support the position taken by this government to engage in what is called mandatory vaccination” Adams said, responding to a recent gazetted order mandating citizens taking the covid jab as a prerequisite for entry, and hence, receiving services from state-run agencies. “It is an unfortunate situation and from what I am seeing this government is trying to agitate the people of Linden. I want to make it clear, that I will maintain that vaccination is necessary and is important for us to achieve a herd community across this country,” Adams said. The Upper Demerara/Berbice (Region Ten) senior official strongly condemned this week’s locking out of nurses from entry to the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) by the polemical figure, Rudy Small the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). According to credible information out of the bauxite mining capital, LHC officials are using handcuffs to secure the LHC gates. Adams blasted this move as not only discriminatory but asserting it as another deliberate action by the government, he said is bent on ‘punishing’ and ‘pressuring’ residents of the mineral-rich region which historically supports the Peoples National Congress (PNC) the major partner in the six-party parliamentary opposition A Partnership for National Unity Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) coalition. Appearing on a social media programme, the RC questioned the logic of handcuffing the hospital’s gate which in the process, denied entry to doctors, the matron, nurses, pregnant women and persons that were slated to undergo surgeries. “There is a woman who was scheduled to have surgery today. She has been locked out. Her stomach has been swelling. This is inhumane, it is unacceptable. This government has opposed everything developmental we have seen them deviating from a path of development pressuring Region 10 taking a discriminatory manner all because it is Linden,” Regional Chairman Adams contended. Adams, who is fully vaccinated, said he did so voluntarily, and feels that every citizen should be given that opportunity to decide for themselves what is placed into her/his body. “I stand with the nurses. I support the actions taken because it is their right, no one should tell you what to do with your body,” Adams insisted. “I believe if they up their PR game…but because of the abysmal failure of the administration to do their job, that is why we are in this situation. It is poor PR, sending in one set of Sputnik V… and you can’t get the second dose. People are frustrated! People are misinformed with information coming from different sides. So, we are calling on the administration to take their knees off the people of this region,” he emphasised. “We have persons who turned up here that had scheduled surgeries and can’t enter the compound. There are some people who would have recovered from COVID and are still exhibiting the symptom of no taste, and the doctors would have said that once you are still experiencing the symptoms you are advised not to take the vaccine until you are cleared by your doctor,” Adams explained. He questioned the rationale behind the locking out of healthcare workers at a time when countries around the world are celebrating them.  “How can you lock out 120 staff members from Matron, doctors, nurses and sick young children who came here for medical intervention? Six pregnant women were turned back from this facility. This is unacceptable.” “I personally believe that they are agitating the people of this Region,” RC Adams warned.
