VICE PRESIDENT Dr BHARRAT JAGDEO WILL BE THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER
TUESDAY at this year’s Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) held in Houston, Texas,
USA.
Mr. Jagdeo will speak on the theme ‘Guyana an emerging oil industry in the context of net
zero emissions’.
Later Tuesday, Jagdeo is expected to address Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy
on the topic ‘Climate Change Aspirations and the Viability of Small Development
Countries’.
On Wednesday, Guyana will host an Evening of Information Sharing and Networking at the
Asia Society Texas Center. Presentations will be made by the Jagdeo, Minister of Natural
Resources, Mr. Vickram Bharrat; a representative from Exxon Mobil; US Ambassador to
Guyana, Ms. Sarah-Ann Lynch; and Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, Chief Investment and Chief Executive
Officer of the Guyana Office for Investment, (GO-Invest).
Jagdeo and minister Bharrat will be featured on the ‘Around the World Series’ panel discussion
focusing on the Guyana and Suriname Basin, and the Liza Project.
The OTC is billed as the largest annual global oil and gas sector trade show, and it is the second
time Guyana, a nascent oil-producing country, will participate in the international petroleum
conference.
The local team also includes Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr.
Hugh Todd and Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Mr. Deodat Indar.
Along with them are private sector representatives from AmCham, GCCI, PSC, GM&SA and
private businesses GUYSONS-GKB, GAICO, MID Atlantic OIL GAS, GOGEC, GYSBI, GTT,
ExxonMobil Guyana and Halliburton.
Guyana’s participation at this year’s OTC will help the team gain valuable insight into
developing local content and to help create opportunities for local businesses “to network and
seek partners in pursuit of emerging opportunities here,” the government agency, Department for
Public Information (DPI) said on its website.
DPI said the country’s participation would also help to attract more of the Supply Chain
opportunities to Guyana’s shores. It said education, connection and networking are the major
focal points of this mission to OTC 2021.
The OTC’s flagship conference is held annually at NRG Park in Houston and is sponsored by 13
industry organisations and societies, which collaborate to develop a technical programme for
energy professionals to meet and exchange ideas and opinions on advanced scientific and
technical knowledge for offshore resources, and environmental issues.
Some 400 representatives from various international and local companies are expected to
attend to meet with the local delegation, DPI said.
