Advisor to the Education Minister, Ms. Africo Selman presents this student with his Tablet.
ANSA McAL Trading Limited today presented electronic tablets to the top 60 students at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment in recognition of their stellar performance.
Ms. Africo Selman, Advisor to the Minister of Education, said she was pleased to participate in the ceremony to honour students’ hard work.
“This is a very special function organised by ANSA McAL Guyana to reward you boys and girls for your success [….] This is the point where you develop your talent through extra and co-curricular activities and commence the journey towards a bright and successful future,” she said.
Dr. Marcel Hutson, Chief Education Officer, said the tablets were a particularly fitting present as they could be used to aid learning during the pandemic.
“[Students] are integral to the development of Guyana; therefore, we want to recognise them and celebrate them in a tangible way,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Errol Nelson, Head-Business Unit at the company, said the celebration falls within its programme of demonstrating social responsibility, as well as part of the Smalta global framework. “Our company remains committed to the educational and the wholistic development of young people. You are indeed the future of our dear land,” he said.
In an invited comment, two of the recipients told DPI that they were grateful for the devices.
“I feel very elated that I received the tablet because it will be very useful because teaching is being done virtually and I’m really glad that it was given because it shows that my hard work did pay off,” Miss Janai Shiwram said.
Master Robert Forrester said, “it will be very useful as I progress further into the school year and throughout the school in general.”
Each student also received a case of Smalta at the ceremony which was held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC).
