Three Region 10 communities benefit from government outreach

HUMAN SERVICES AND SOCIAL SECURITY MINISTER DR Vindya Persaud recently
met three communities in Upper Demerara/Berbice (Region Ten) to reiterate the government’s
commitment to equal access to all its services.

Region Ten is a traditional political stronghold of the Peoples National Congress (PNC) the
largest partner in the six-party coalition A Partnership for National Unity Alliance For Change
(APNU+AFC).
In the 2020 polls, Linden, the bauxite-mining capital of the mineral rich community, voted
solidly for the APNU+AFC coalition, and leaders in the community have since been accusing the
Irfaan Ali administration of victimisation of the 40,000-member population.

“I am focused on the human resource sector of this country of Guyana, which means that every
one of you irrespective of your gender, or your age, or your background or your level of
vulnerability, each one of you is to be supportive, to be provided for and definitely and we are
committed to delivering to every one of you,” said Minister Dr. Persaud during the recent
outreach.
During the outreach, community members queried issues relating to old age pension; child care
and protection services, and optometry services. The government team also educated the
communities about the Women’s Innovation and Investment Network (WIIN). Minister Persaud
encouraged the ladies to apply for available opportunities for their benefit.

Three communities received 80 hampers from the visiting government team.
“This is a good initiative our Minister did for a lot of persons in this community because
most of it is going to persons with disabilities and the old people and even the kids,”
Beverly Savory a community member said in a Department of Public Information (DPI)
report.
