Bringing the Regions to you

Senior RDC Official husband received multiple contracts

A senior official attached to the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) Region Ten, the husband received multiple contracts within the region. This revelation was made by several staffers who are demanding answers.

www.aroundtheregions.com learnt that Carlton Powers received several contracts from RDC Ten, while his wife, Dollette Powers served as the Principal Assistant Secretary (PAS) Finance for the region. Powers was recently elevated to acting Regional Executive Officer (REO) after Orrin Gordon received marching orders.

This media house received documents, which showed that Mr Powers received a monthly payment of 90,000.00 for operating the Grader where he graded the road at Millie’s Hideout. The payment was processed through the accounts department that his wife, Dollette headed. Questions are being asked with regards to a possible conflict of interest. However, it was pointed out that Mr Powers has been receiving several similar contracts.

“This is highly unacceptable because obviously she will ensure that her husband gets paid timely and we have seen that certain persons are given preferential treatment,” a source within the RDC said.

Another noted, “This woman has had many questions asked about her professionalism not only by staff but many within the community over her handling of persons’ payments because of these clouds of suspicion and uncertainty. The public needs to know if the process of granting her husband these contracts were properly followed because, while we agree that if he is the best person he should get it, we must understand that the process must be fair, transparent and unbiased.”

www.aroundtheregions.com learnt that there continue to be several questions surrounding the Millie’s Hideout project, with many asking how was it manage and the process used by the former REO Gordon to issue contracts.  “Millie’s Hide Out has several unanswered questions and to know that Mr Powers was part of the cloud of suspicion increases the need for answers more. This was a man who every month got 90,000.00 and in some cases more. Therefore, it must be noted that he got his payments on time, while others were forced to wait for long periods and in some cases undergo undue challenges for theirs. It seems like some persons are more fortunate than others,” a prominent official within the region questioned.

Several small contractors speaking to this media house reported that the manner in how the region has been issuing contracts over the years is evidently flawed and an urgent review needs to be done immediately. “We have a system in this region where its only certain people that gets contracts and the sad thing is that if you decide to speak out, you are deliberately marginalized and discriminated against. As such, people are reluctant to voice their disapproval openly, because while the region is politically slanted in one way, there is also the internal politics that many have to contend with. That is something that many are not prepared for,” a contractor said.

Meanwhile, a teacher whose husband is a contractor voiced her disapproval in the Senior official’s husband securing contracts, complaining that many times when they are weeding contracts at several of the schools and teachers encourages their husbands to apply, they would be sidelined and rejected because it is viewed as a conflict of interest. “When there are schools to weed and some of our husbands apply they are ignored on the grounds that we, their wives are teachers but for her it is ok, how can this be far,” she asked.
