GUYANESE WILL BEGIN RECEIVING THE SECOND DOSE OF THE SPUTNIK V
inoculation from today said Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony.
Minister Anthony said vaccination will continue for those who received their first doses in April
and May.
“We know a lot of persons took their first dose…. and are now eligible for their second dose,”
the Anthony said.
“You would recall we have started giving the second dose to those persons who got their first
dose in April. We'll continue that process from (today) anybody remaining from April will be
able to access their second dose,” the Minister said reiterating the local protocol.
Those eligible for the jab can visit the vaccination sites across the country to have their second
dose administered, the minister said. He stressed that in addition to the Russian-manufactured
Sputnik V, the ministry will also be administering the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine along with
the Chinese-made Sinopharm.
Guyana had experienced delays in receiving the shipment of the second component of the
Sputnik V following a global shortage due to spike in the Delta variant of the deadly COVID-19.
The Sputnik V is also has proving most effective against this latest variant of the virus.
Some 247, 000 Guyanese have already receiving their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine,
while 130,429 have been fully vaccinated.
