The Regional Health and Emergency Committee (RHEC) Region Ten has immediately seized all meetings. Confirmed sources close to the acting REO, Dollette Powers disclosed that a decision to stop the meetings was made Tuesday.
The RHEC Region Ten committee has been receiving several criticisms from residents with many claiming that the Chairman, Rennis Morian has been creating undue confusion and politicizing the meetings. Several APNU/AFC members have also openly voiced their disgust and frustration of the handling of the meetings.
However, sources close to the Ministry of Communities also confirmed that the subject Minister has received numerous complaints about the inefficiency and ineffectiveness of the RHEC. Many are publicly requesting that a new committee be established with new members. “We need stakeholders who have a vision and is prepared to serve irrespective of their political persuasion and until we can have persons who will recognize that the Government is doing their best to stem this pandemic we wouldn’t move forward,” a member of the RHEC said.
Several members welcomed this new decision saying that finally the powers that ne have listened to the cries and concerns of several members and hopes that moving forward several systems will be put in place to ensure that the RHEC only addresses COVID related issues as it was set up to do.
However, in a message seen by this media house to the RHEC members, the acting REO, Ms. Dollette Powers stated, “all COVID meetings has been suspended”. It went on further to state, “This is to facilitate the smooth entry of the new council.”
As news of the cancellation of all meetings for the time being made its way around the community, many greeted the news with excitement and relaxation with several claiming that it’s a breath of fresh air. “We are happy that finally someone who has authority has recognized that these meetings were not serving its original purpose because of several undue challenges and difficulties. We can no longer go on like this and while it’s a fact that Region Ten is a APNU/AFC strong hold, our primary focus is addressing this health pandemic. Thus far we are satisfied with the efforts of the new Government in this regard,” a resident of Wismar said.
A businessman based in Mc Kenzie added, “for too long this committee has been missing its focus. We are happy that addressing these problems would have resulted in a new RHO being introduced as the RHEC was being used as a ‘payday’ for several members. We trust that when the committee starts back an investigation into the many spending would be done.”
Additionally, several members confirmed to www.aroundtheregions.com that many of the RHEC meetings failed to address the core health-related issues and concerns, but rather it was a mere talk shop and a platform for many political discussions and unqualified criticism. This resulted in several persons voicing their discomfort of spending two odd hours trice weekly with no serious work being done in confronting COVID 19 in the region.
The RHEC meetings were held every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. A new committee is expected to be introduced shortly.
