Response to Minister Edghill irresponsible Press Statement

Minister Bishop Juan Anthony Edghill

The response by the Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill to an article published by
this media house today, strengthens what we, as a nation have grown accustomed to from the
goodly Bishop: deliberate ignorance, perennial arrogance and irresponsible public behaviour.
Minister Edghill continues to feel that he has a monopoly and authority to chastise and/or
demoralise anyone whom he feels does not share his views of reality.
In the words of one of our local cricket commentators, he feels he must always be “large and in
charge”.
Further, we are of the view that the Minister, either didn’t read the article properly or, still
smarting from recent news out of bauxite-mining town of Linden about losing a firearm among
other alleged activities, is seething with left-over rage.
So, we become his target.
Minister Edghill is certainly not an example of what H.E President Dr. Irfaan Ali can hold up
with pride as a model professional Afro-Guyanese they pant after to help broaden national
backing among non-traditional supporters.
We stand by the facts of our article. Quotations attributed to the Honourable PM are actual words
spoken by him. We didn’t invent them. The PM’s conviction might not have been in accord with
Edghill’s version of reality, or what he hoped the PM would have uttered. Not our fault.
Edghill rants for a response certainly border on threatening to derail the very vital support we
know his party craves in Region Ten.
Recorded footage of the meeting which has been circulating on social media contradicts Minister
Edghill’s statement accusing this media house of inaccuracies.
His hasty response concentrates on the headline instead of first understanding thrust of the story.
In his usual over-reach, he tries to dictate what headline a privately-owned Media house must
use. This will not be entertained.

We reject his attempts at reverse psychology by accusing us of sowing division. We urge the
Minister to have a cursory glance in the mirror anytime to see the perennially divisive national
character if he so desires.
Minister Edghill stood by the controversial CEO Rudy Small, whose inflammatory comments
ignited the conflagration of ongoing controversy, and who, like Edghill, himself also tried,
futilely, to pin the blame on the media house for the irresponsible comments accurately
attributed to him.
For the record, we are not mischief-makers.
But we accept that from time to time in this business there will be serious disagreements between
our perspectives and those of government and other officials.
We can disagree agreeably – if we so choose.
We at www.aroundtheregions.com eschew tit for tat.
We trade not in barbs.
Dialogue still enlightens. This we believe. Firmly.
In the words of youthful US Poet Laureate, Ms. Amanda Gorman:
“For there is always light,
if only we're brave enough to see it
If only we're brave enough to be it”
So, Bishop Juan Anthony Edghill let us together strive daily to “rebuild, reconcile and recover”.
