Regional Vice Chairman has great plans for Amerindian communities

Region 9 Regional Vice Chairman, Bertie Xavier

Recently elected Regional Vice Chairman of Region Nine, Bertie Xavier has declared that he has
numerous plans for the residents of Region Nine. Xavier made this discloser in an exclusive
interview with www.aroundtheregions.com, where he disclosed that while he is fine tuning
several plans, there are some immediate plans that he is working upon.
“I am in the process of developing all my goals and plans for the next five years, but I have some
immediate goals that I am seriously looking at accomplishing,” he said.
He spoke about the need to transform the region. “I want to transform the region into a level
where villages can have their economy, improve and raise the standard of living of the people
within Region Nine,” Xavier stressed.
He continued, “My second goal addresses security as this is ensuring that every village in the
region is secured from crime and opportunities in education. The security of the livelihood of
people improves and thirdly promote overall the level of trying to improve the goals of
sustainable development in terms of how you use your resources, how well people interact, how
well they associate and ensure that their livelihoods are balanced. Further, that residents are
happy at the end of the day and that people reconnect, thus ensuring that we have one common
goal. This is one focus for the people of the region.”
The University Graduate disclosed that in 2015 he began serving on the Council as a Regional
Councilor. This, he said was a culmination of years of persuasion and encouragement by
villagers, family and friends who firmly expressed their confidence in his ability to genuinely
serve. He said that in 2015 he conceded and was given an opportunity to serve as Regional
Councillor for the PPPC. “Many persons over the years were encouraging me to get involve as
they felt that I could contribute in a significant way to the continued development of my
community and Region Nine as a whole,” he said.

Xavier who has been teaching at the Annai Secondary school admitted that while teaching is not
his first love, he got into the profession as it was the only opportunity that allowed him to
remain in the community with his wife and garnering employment at the same time.
The father of three children who secured his Masters in Community Development and
Conservation in 2011 online, confessed that his primary objective is to continue securing
opportunities for both academic and professional development of the youths within his
community and region. Xavier stressed the need for advanced educational development,
disclosing that he did his undergraduate in Environmental Sciences at the University of Guyana
graduating in 2007. Prior to attending the University of Guyana, he spent one year at the Guyana
School of Agriculture as he did the forestry programme there.
The man who describes himself as a Forester and an Environmentalist admitted that as Regional
Vice Chairman he is cognizant that the expectations of those within the region would be
enormous, as many youths are clamoring for an opportunity to either advance themselves or
showcase their skills and abilities. “I am trying to find ways to fund more opportunities for

youngsters, while we are improving the educational level within the community,” a confident
Xavier said.
