Regional VC expresses thanks to Wowetta residents

As several Amerindian communities wrapped up their celebrations for Amerindian Heritage
Month 2020, one community is expressing satisfaction and thanks to its residents for one of the
projects that it executed.
The community of Wowetta which saw one of their own in Bertie Xavier being elected as the
Region Nine Vice Chairman was high in praise for what his community aided by their senior
councilor Arnold Norman, did for Amerindian Heritage month 2020.
Speaking to www.aroudtheregions.com exclusively, the Regional Vice Chairman said that they
held a cook out for the community as it sought to help in bringing families much closer together.
Xavier said that this project saw several of the members within the community turning out in
large numbers. “We had a food distribution where members of the community came together,
and we spent the day together interacting and spending quality time as a community. The lunches
were distributed after we finished cooking, while engaging in various activities,” he said.
He disclosed that the numbers were very high as many within the community used the
opportunity to interact and share experiences with residents. This, he stressed has helped in
bridging closer relationships.
The newly elected Regional Vice Chairman said that they used the activity as a means to further
interact and to assess the needs of many, while at the same time promoting improved cohesive
relationships. He admitted that a large number of residents from the community’s 421 were in
attendance.
He disclosed that despite his community being seen as a small village, it is one of the five
satellite villages that is part of Annai. He said that Wowetta is 75 miles from Lethem and eight
miles from Annanai
He disclosed that the village senior councillor Arnold Norman was in attendance as well.
“This was an activity that we had all looked forward to and I am very happy that it was very
successful. Many villagers were in attendance and they all had a grand time under the village’s
Benab,” he said.
Xavier pointed out that while the COVID situation has evidently affected several planned events
and activities for the community, they are hoping that in 2021 it would be better, adding that
many were eager to participate in their activities. “The Amerindian Heritage month activities are
one thing that people from these communities and in this region looks forward to. Further,
despite COVID affecting many in what we would have like to do, many residents are eagerly
looking out for next year as we remain confident that with us practicing the Ministry of Health
guidelines, we would be able to eradicate this disease, thus being able to have a better and
improved celebration next year, as this is the month that we as Amerindians look forward to,” the
Wowetta villager and Regional Vice Chairman said.
