As the country continues to battle the steady increase in COVID 19 cases, Region Ten residents continue to see an increase. The Region while keeping its numbers under control for a few months continues to see a sharp increase with many questioning the approach of the Region in addressing the pandemic. The region has recorded 96 cases thus far.
As a matter of fact, several residents are stating that with the Regional Chairman, Rennis Morian heading the committee, the committee has taken a pro-APNU/AFC approach instead of addressing the matter as a major health crisis. “The RC approaching COVID as a political platform, because of his non-inclusive approach of pivotal stakeholders, the region’s once-tight grip on controlling this pandemic is slipping away,” a senior official within the Region explained.
Additionally, many are expressing the opinion that despite the shortcoming of the former Regional Executive Officer (REO), Orrin Gordon the Region was able to achieve much under his stewardship as it relates to COVID 19. This, they claim is a stark difference from the leadership being provided by Rennis Morian. “This is evident in how he has been conducting meetings and operating,” a prominent resident said.
The resident who only offered his first name as Peter said that the Regional Chairman’s ego and pursuit for publicity have failed to include the key stakeholders. “This man certainly lacks vision and it’s being revealed further every day. He is contributing to the increased challenges and difficulties being experienced by the health care professionals within the region,” Peter said.
www.aroundtheregions.com has been informed that several members who sit on the RHEC committee have refused to attend meetings, while there continue to be some tardy responses from others. This, they claim is the RC’s ineffective and inefficient approach to addressing the COVID crises. “We have a Regional Chairman who deliberately sets out to embarrass the PPP/C administration, instead of seeking to forge relationships. He continues to play a blame game attempting at making the Government look bad,” one member said.
Another argued that she has lost any interest in attending the meetings as instead of allowing the members to voice their opinions frankly and openly he deliberately brands members as supporters and sympathizers of the PPP administration. “This cannot work as if someone makes a point that he isn’t in support of, he marginalizes them. How long can persons continue with this when we are volunteering our time, but instead he is seeking to brand us,” another echoed.
Further, several members noted that their interest in continuing is no longer there. Several of the members contacted the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall expressing their frustration and dissatisfaction over the way how the RHEC meetings have deteriorated under the Regional Chairman. “The RHEC shouldn’t be political because COVID 19 doesn’t differentiate between APNU/AFC and or PPP/C supporters but rather they pose a deadly risk to all as this level of ignorance and stupidity can no longer be tolerated at these meetings,” a member passionately said.
Several others who admitted that while they are still on the committee, they have been deliberately missing some meetings protesting on how the RHEC is managed. “Rennis Morian is no longer valuable and in short we want him out,” another noted.
Despite the Results of the National and Regional elections being announced on August 2, showing the PPP/C winning, the RDC Region Ten hasn’t held elections to determine its Regional Chairman and Regional Vice-Chairman.
