Political menstruation in the AFC

Mr. Joel Persid Edmond

THE BLEEDING CONTINUES.
The Political menstruation at the Alliance For Charge (AFC) flows unchecked and the scarlet
evidence is visible to the public.
The second major party in the parliamentary opposition A Partnership for National Unity
(APNU+AFC), a collection of 10 political outfits has been bleeding members since it teamed up
with the major party, the Peoples National Congress (PNC), to contest the 2015 polls.
Dr. Veerasammy Ramayya, former MP Audwin Rutherford, Mr. Gerhard Ramsaroop,
businessman, Mr. Robert Badal, accountant, Mr. Nigel Hinds, and Mr. Abel Seetaram are among
prominent names which come quickly to mind about disgruntled members who formed part of
the crimson flow which is still streaming away from the AFC amidst public criticisms that the
party has lost its way, and, worst, has become a toothless poodle of the PNC.
In this period (to stick with the menstrual metaphor) it is Mr. Joel Persid Edmond, a certified
Mediator, who joined discharge when he tendered his resignation with immediate effect on
Saturday from the embattled ‘Third Force’ party.
In the letter of resignation, seen by www.aroundtheregions.com, Edmond told its General
Secretary, (GS) Mr. David Patterson, inter alia, “I must clarify that by this resignation, I
completely withdraw my support from the AFC Party, hence by further extension my total
disassociation (also) from the APNU+AFC.”
Edmond served as an AFC Executive for two terms and thanked the party and its leaders for the
opportunity to serve, pointing out that the resignation is in no way an indication of the end of his
political career stating, “…since I intend to continue the fight for the true sense of democracy in
Guyana.”
It stated further, “I hope with the doctrine of ‘Liberal Democracy’ my resignation is received in
good faith.

While Edmond was unreached, three well-known party supporters confirmed his resignation.
However, his departure did not come as a complete surprise since relationships among several
AFC key persons are very shaky, they disclosed.
They are also predicting a wave of other resignations from some key popular figures.
It is unclear whether Edmond’s resignation paves the way for him to join the ruling Peoples
Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) or a ploy to start his own political outfit or team up with an
existing one.
Whatever the origin of the discharge, the AFC can’t ‘Always’ be ‘Carefree’ about the ongoing
crimson outpouring visible to be public. It needs the services of an expert political
Gynaecologist.
Edmond is the husband of APNUAFC Parliamentarian Geeta Chandan-Edmond, Shadow
Minister of Home Affairs.
