Policeman collapses and dies at home

Albert Perreira

LANCE CORPORAL ALBERT PERREIRA, 44, of Reid Street, Sheet Anchor Village, Corentyne,
collapsed and died at his home about 5:30 am Tuesday.
Perreira, who was posted to the Springlands Police Station in East Berbice/Corentyne (Region Six) died
from what is suspected to be a heart attack. His wife said he collapsed in the hall of his home at
approximately 5.30 am after complaining of a shortness of breath, a police blotter said.
It said “as a result, she went for a glass of water to give him and when she returned, she observed that he
was motionless.”
The police press statement said his wife’s efforts to contact the New Amsterdam (NA) Hospital for an
ambulance proved futile, forcing her to seek the lawmen’s help. He was still lying motionless on the floor
when they arrived.
A doctor attached to the New Amsterdam Hospital who later arrived at the scene, pronounced him dead.
There were no marks of violence on the body the police said.
Perreira’s body was transported to the Persaud Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem
examination (PME).
