NATIONAL AND MIGRANT COLLEGE STUDENTS ARE NOW ENTITLED to free college tuition announced on Sunday by newly-elected St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew.
Dr Drew made the disclosure during his inaugural address as the Fourth PM of the twin-island independent Caribbean state at Sunday’s swearing-in ceremony, when he, and members of his cabinet, took their oaths, and received their instruments of office at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium in the capital, Basseterre.
“My brothers and sisters we also heard the cries of the parents who could not afford the cost to send their children to the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC). These hardships were primarily caused by the removal of funding and training programmes like REACH which was initiated by the St Kitts Nevis Labour Party-led administration back in 2014, but was discontinued by the former government,” of Dr Timothy Harris, Drew explained in his speech.
The prime minister assured that children of non-nationals attending college are also entitled immediately to the free college tuition as long as their parents are living legally in the federation, and are contributing to the growth and development of the twin-island Federation.
Once again, learning takes centre stage in the country, PM Dr Drew assured his hearers. in his brief address.
“The education of our children is simply too valuable to be wasted. Under your new Minister of Education and Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Geoffrey Hanley…we will invest more resources into our educational and training institutions so that they can lead the charge in equipping our young students for the 21st century opportunities.
The St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) which won the August 5th polls, removed the burdensome tuition cost right away.
“Therefore, your labour-led government will provide (free) tuition for all students of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College going forward and those who have paid, you will be refunded,” said Drew who is also the country’s Finance Minister.
The Prime Minister also holds the National Security, Immigration, Social Security and CBI (Citizen By Investment) portfolios.
“Fellow citizens your government is working for you and we pledge to work each and every day for the next five years and beyond,” PM Drew assured.
