Pastor’s wife dies

Mrs. Claudette London

THE WIFE OF PASTOR JOSEPH LONDON SENIOR, DIED SUNDAY from the dreaded
Corona virus (COVID-19).
Mrs. Claudette London was a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Infectious Diseases
Hospital at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.
She was highly respected and admired and was married to Pastor Joseph London, a well-known
figure in the religious circles in the bauxite-mining town.
She was the mother of eight, with one deceased. Her son Dr. Joseph London is the Medical
Superintendent (MS) at the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC)
When reached, Dr London would only confirm his mother’s death. However, a sibling, Grace
described her late mother as one who made time for all her children despite how taxing it was on
her schedule.
Her mother as being the “wind beneath our wings,” Grace recalled.
She continued: “My mother always promoted excellence. She always pushed us to do our best
and she had a way of making any situation resolved and this saw her turning any situation into a
good one. She just had a special gift of loving each of her children individually but uniquely,”
the grieving daughter said.
The late Claudette London helped nurture a strong Christian family, and according to Grace, that
foundation is helping them withstand their great loss.
“A part of us is still human and we are subjected to our emotions and it is hurting us,” she added.
This is the fifth death of a well-known resident over the past months from Upper
Demerara/Berbice (Region Ten). Government Councillor, ‘Gem’ Narine; main opposition
Councillor and Regional Vice Chairman, Mr. Douglas Gittens were among the list.
Commenting on Mrs. London’s death, a well-known community leader said: “Mrs. London and
her husband both lived very simple and respectable lives and I was shocked to learn of her death.
She has certainly played an important role in the Linden and Region Ten community and we will
certainly miss her, it’s really sad.”;
Another noted, “she was truly a stalwart as she impacted Linden in a significant way and despite
being a woman of few words, her impact and reach were indeed enormous. I am certain that the
news of her death has surely rocked the community.”;

Mrs. London “was truly a beautiful soul who would be missed by many and the impact of her
contributions has been so significant that her children are emulating her,” the healthcare
professional in Linden said.
Many Lindeners used social media to offer their condolence to the grieving London family and to
appeal to their fellow residents to follow the Ministry of Health protocol to help protect
themselves against the rampaging pandemic.
Since it was first detected in Wuhan, China at the end of 2019, the infectious virus has so
far killed more than 3.8 million persons worldwide, including 447 from Guyana.
