No major crime over past three months in Region Ten

Regional Police Commander Hugh Winter

Regional Police Commander for Region Ten, Hugh Winter has revealed that the region has seen
a massive reduction in crime over the past three months. Winter made this disclosure in an
exclusive interview with www.aroundtheregions.com, where he spoke about the enormous work
being done by his ranks in the region.
The Commander and several of his ranks have been praised for their enormous work with many
signaling out him and his deputy, Wayne Dehearte for their relentless and consistent approach in
addressing crime and COVID related issues within the region. Several residents across Guyana
had hailed the work of the police ranks in Region Ten with many persons suggesting that other
regions should emulate. The Commander said that while they are entering the Christmas season
and have already beefed up security in and around Region Ten his ranks continue to spread the
message of staying safe and adhering to COVID related measures.
“Our ranks are aware that while they are maintaining security, they need to still spread the word
and continue to urge persons to wear their face masks and maintain social distancing.  As a
matter of fact, our ranks are out as we speak sharing the word including myself and my deputy,”
Winter said.
The Commander, acknowledging that some persons use the Christmas season to execute their
plans of committing crime, warned that his ranks and the police in Region Ten are alert and will
remain so. He said that the Region has put systems in place that will swiftly apprehend anyone
attempting to break the law.

Deputy Regional Police Commander Wayne Dehearte

“The increase in crime has been a no no for us because the systems that we have put in place
over the past months has seen a major reduction in crime in the region and we are working
towards maintaining the reduction in crime. As a matter of fact, there have been no major crimes
in the past three months in Region Ten and we recognize that  this is very commendable by both
the police and residents,” the top police officer in Region Ten said.
Quizzed on what may have contributed to this major reduction, the Regional Police Commander
said that the police continue to address crime for twenty four hours. “We have strengthened our
relationship with residents and further, we have taken a firm approach in addressing crime from
all angles,” he said.
He said that reports and tips shared by residents are treated with the strictest confidentiality and
urgency as they recognize that to continue achieving success they must maintain a very proactive
and interactive relationship with the residents.
The Regional Commander reassured that this would continue. He also revealed that the shortage
of ranks that was raised early in April of this year has been addressed.
“I can say happily that the region is fully staffed with adequate police ranks. We will continue to
execute our duties with the highest professional standard as we seek to maintain law and order in
the community. We are also grateful for the willingness and adherence by the residents to the

law, thus resulting in this massive decrease of major crimes over the past three months,” he
reiterated.
