Nine RDCs to hold swearing in

Nine of the ten administrative Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs) will be swearing in their respective Councilors while electing Regional Chairmen and Regional Vice-Chairmen.

The elections of these persons will take place tomorrow, Monday, September 28 at 10 am. The nine regions slated that will be swearing in councillors are Regions One, Two, Three, Four, Five Six, Seven, Nine and Ten. Region Eight will not be holding its own tomorrow, but a date for its swearing-in has not been announced either.

According to a document seen by this media house each of the regions will be visited by a Government Minister who is expected to oversee the swearing-in and election of the Chair and Vice-Chair.

Additionally, considering the COVID 19 pandemic and with social distancing being in effect, several of the swearing-in and election of the Chair and Vice-Chair will not take place at the Regional Democratic Councils Boardroom as is customary, but at other venues.

For Region One, Minister Housing and Water, Collin Croal will officiate at the Mabaruma Primary, Region Two will see Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall at the RDC Boardroom in Anna Regina. Visiting Region Three is Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand at the Regional Amin Office (New Wing) Vreed en Hoop, Region Four will see the Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall at the Bladen Hall Multilateral School, Region Five will have the junior Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Anand Persaud at the RDC Boardroom. Region Six will hold its own at the Francais Xavier Building in Rose Hall (Alex Foster) and will see Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha visiting, Region Seven will host its own at the St. John the Baptist Primary School and will be visited by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Gail Teixeira. Meanwhile, for Region Nine, it will be held at the Amerindian Hostel and will see Minister of natural Resources Vickram Bharrat being present, while Region Ten will be at the Watooka Guest House in Linden and Minister Bishop Juan Edghill who is responsible for Public Works will be there. Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai will be responsible for that when a date is announced. It was revealed that the postponement of Region Eight’s swearing-in is because of the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic.
