DUAL CITIZEN YEŞIM ORUÇ is the new United Nations Resident Coordinator to Guyana.
Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Hugh Todd accepted Ms. Oruç’s Letter
of Credence last week Friday at his ‘Takuba Lodge’ office in the capital.
Ms. Oruç, who is a national of Turkey and the United States of America (USA), replaces
outgoing Mikiko Tanaka, who served for five years in Guyana.
Prior to her appointment as the highest-ranking UN Official in Guyana, Oruç served as the
United Nation’s Development Programme’s (UNDP) Deputy Director in Washington from 2016-
2021. She previously served as the UNDP Country Director in Albania from 2012-2016 and
UNDP Resident Representative and Deputy Resident Representative from 2008-2012 in
Romania.
Ms. Oruç had joined UNDP in 1996 as a national officer in Turkey.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (Comparative Governments) from Yale
University, Connecticut, USA and a Masters of Art degree in Middle East Studies from the
American University in Cairo, Egypt.
Ms. Oruc speaks four languages: English and Turkish, Arabic and German.
