Nandlall defends Annandale outreaches

Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall

ATTORNEY GENERAL and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall is defending his decision
to hold outreached in Annandale on Saturdays pointing to tangible benefits accrued to hundreds
of attendees.
Nandalall told www.aroundtheregions.com. that the outreaches on the East Coast Demerara
corridor, have been ongoing for the past three months benefitting hundreds who attend each
week.
“These persons that we see come as far as Essequibo on the West as far as Courantyne on the
East, Linden on the South and of course regions three and four. People even came from Lethem
as well. I think that it has been a resounding success, and this is part of the PPP manifesto
promise of not governing from Georgetown alone, walking the streets, going into the villages,
going into the interior and taking governance to the people,” the Minister said.
Nandlall has dubbed as “irrelevant” several criticisms from members of the public to his
outreaches held exclusively in Annandale.

“I want to make it abundantly clear that not only residents of Annandale come here. I see the
criticisms being made regularly as to why I am only doing it in Annandale. I do not have this
facility in every village, and I can’t move from village to village under different peoples bottom
house, but this is not an indication that I will not go to different places. If you look at the various
ministers they have been travelling throughout the country. I will be going throughout the
country as well. We decided to use here as a location because for the past 15 years I have been
holding meetings and outreaches here. We hold an annual Christmas party for senior citizens and
children every year here.”
He said he has been holding public meetings in Annandale for over 15 years and is satisfied there
will be no breaches of the strict COVD-19 guidelines.

Nandlall wants to keep his fingers on the public’s pulse which he said is very important in his
political life. The outreaches, Nandlall said is so far successful as he has been able to assist a
number of people, though most of their concerns fall under colleague ministers’ portfolio.
“Some of the things that people come to see me doesn’t fall under my ministry but I would reach
out to my ministerial colleagues and whatever we can assist with they would help. Regardless of
race and or political affiliation no one is turned away as I seek to meet everyone here even if it
means sitting here until 6 pm every Saturday,” he declared.
“I think this is a very good thing and I intend to continue this as we want to ensure that
every promise that we made to the public during our campaign is kept,” Nandlall
emphasised.
