Mothers Day message 2025 from GPSU – Message

Mother’s Day is a special occasion to pause, reflect, and celebrate the enduring influence of mothers in shaping families, communities, and nations. On behalf of the President, Executive Council, and Members of the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU), we extend our deepest appreciation to all mothers and mother figures who continue to serve as the heart and soul of society.

In the truest and most universal sense, a mother is not defined solely by biology, but by the love, guidance, and unwavering commitment she offers to others. Her role is sacred, whether she is a birth mother, grandmother, aunt, guardian, teacher, or community elder. She is the pillar and authority in the home, guiding and nurturing growth, shaping emerging leaders, instilling values, shielding in times of adversity, and uplifting those around her with quiet strength and enduring faith.

Mothers are stewards of dignity, wisdom, and transformation in every corner of public life. They are caregivers and breadwinners, advocates and professional, many serving simultaneously in demanding roles within healthcare, education, civil service, and other public sectors. We especially honor the countless mothers in our ranks who balance the demands of home and nation, offering care with one hand and courage with the other.

The essence of such a woman is beautifully captured in Proverbs 31, where Scripture paints a portrait of a virtuous woman, not to burden, but to inspire. She is:

  • Faithful and devoted, seeking strength and direction from God.
  • Wise and diligent, managing her time and resources with discipline and insight.
  • Clothed in strength and dignity, facing life’s trials with poise and confidence.
  • Family-centered, leading with love and commitment to the well-being of her household.
  • Generous and compassionate, open-handed to the poor and vulnerable.
  • Honest and trustworthy, a steward of integrity who earns the confidence of others.
  • Influential and inspiring, guiding by example and shaping her community.

She is not a static or unattainable figure, but a reflection of the very real women who rise each day to do what is good, noble, and just.

Mothers are not only caregivers; they are builders of justice and stewards of social change. They stand at the forefront of collective bargaining, advocating for policies that support families, protect jobs, and uplift communities. Their voices echo in every call for equity and every action taken toward a better future.

Despite their contributions, mothers across the globe, including in Guyana, continue to face numerous injustices: domestic violence, gender-based discrimination, workplace harassment, and economic inequality. The GPSU reiterates its urgent call for the Parliament of Guyana to ratify ILO Convention 190 and Recommendation 206, the first international instruments to address violence and harassment in the world of work. This step is critical to upholding the dignity, safety, and rights of working women, particularly mothers, who often face compounded vulnerabilities.

As Alicia Keys’ lyrics remind us:

“For all the mothers fighting
For better days to come
And all my women sitting here trying
To come home before the sun
And all my sisters coming together
Say ‘Yes, I will,’ and ‘Yes, I can’”

In this spirit, the GPSU pledges to continue the fight for equity, safety, social protection, and justice, honoring the legacy of all mothers who stand with courage, lead with grace, and labor with love.

We also offer heartfelt prayers for mothers grieving the loss of a child, in Guyana and beyond. May the God of all comfort surround you with peace during this time of deep sorrow. Your love and resilience are a testament to the strength of a mother’s heart. Please know that the GPSU family holds you close in thought and solidarity.

May God bless all mothers with continued strength, wisdom, and peace. May your efforts be seen, your sacrifices honored, and your lives surrounded by love and respect.

Happy Mother’s Day 2025.
We honor you. We celebrate with you. We stand with you.
