Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Frank Anthony says some 2,700 persons were immunised at the weekend, during the Ministry’s COVID-19 vaccination drive-through exercises at MovieTowne, Turkeyen and the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
Dr. Anthony says two-thirds of the total vaccination were first doses, in his COVID-19 update on Monday.
On Saturday, 735 persons received their doses at the MovieTowne location while 700 persons visited the Stadium for their jabs.
On Sunday, 694 persons were vaccinated in the MovieTowne parking lot, and 650 at the Stadium.
“I think it was pretty good. Both sides we saw a steady flow of vehicles…So I think, you know, in summary… we’ve had quite a bit of success with this type of exercise where people are driving through and getting their vaccines, and a lot of people would have commented on the efficiency,” Dr. Anthony said.
Similar exercises are being planned for other areas.
“We are going to examine, and we are going to continue to do a number of these exercises. We will be consulting with communities to see where we can, ideally, place them.”
Possible locations have already been identified in Region Four communities. The Minister said a vaccination drive-through exercise would be held in Region Three next week. Discissions are being held to host similar events in Regions Two and Six.
To date, 220,997 persons have received their first dose of a Covid vaccine, while 87,919 persons have been fully vaccinated.
