THE HEALTH MINISTRY, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE EDUCATION
MINISTRY, WILL BEGIN USING MOBILE TEAMS COUNTRYWIDE to help push the
current vaccination drive targeting children between 12 and 17 years old to take the COVID-19
jab in time for the September 06 reopening of schools.
Health Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony announced the measure Monday during his daily ‘COVID-
19 Update’ when he explained the mobile teams will complement over 100 fixed Covid
vaccination sites scattered across the 10 Administrative Regions of the 216,000 Km 2 country.
The health and education ministries will prepare a schedule for administering the vaccines at
various schools through the country.
“Hopefully we’ll get the entire school population coming out so that we can vaccinate that
school and move on,”, Anthony said during the daily update.
Students from 12 to 17 will be inoculated with the Pfizer vaccine. Anthony reminded parents and
guardians that children must receive two doses to be considered fully vaccinated.
“The Pfizer vaccines that we are using for school children would require the children to return
after 21 days so that they can get a second dose and once they get that second dose, they’ll be
fully immunised.”
Anthony said if the current trend of high turnout of student continues, all adolescents would be
vaccinated in a short time, enabling schools to reopen to face-to-face teaching and learning in a
safe environment after some 18 months.
Some 2000 adolescents received the vaccine on Sunday. A number of adults also seized the
opportunity to take the life-saving jab.
