Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Hon. Anand Persaud has warned Opposition-affiliated Regional and Neighbourhood Democratic Councils against stalling development.
The Minister was at the time speaking to residents during a walkabout of the Little Diamond and Herstelling NDC communities on Monday.
He said subversion of Government plans should will not be tolerated.
“His Excellency President Mohamed Irfaan Ali has made it clear that development will take place in this country for all Guyanese and we intend, as Ministers, to carry out those orders. Taxpayers’ monies must be spent and we’ll ensure that happens,” he explained.
Minster Persaud added that the Government has no problem working with Opposition-affiliated Councils, but they must fulfil their mandate to the people. If there are persistent challenges at the local and regional levels, the central Government will assume the projects for completion, he said.
The Minister also said residents should hold their RDCs and NDCs accountable and if their concerns are ignored, they should approach the Ministry.
Minister Persaud’s call is in keeping with the goal outlined by Minister Hon. Nigel Dharamlall earlier this year, that the Ministry intended to partner with its local organs for development.
