Minister Indar meets with Belle West residents to address concern

The Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Hon. Deodat Indar today visited Belle West, West Bank Demerara where he told residents that two of their streets will soon be rehabilitated.

The Minister explained that he recently received a letter from a resident in the area, detailing his frustration. Approximately 394 meters of the road will be rehabilitated and machines are slated to commence operations within about one month’s time. According to the Minister, work will be done in all the Local Democratic Areas in Region Three and development will also take place across the country.

Also present for the meeting were the Regional Chairman, Mr. Sheik Ayube, Canals Polder Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) Chairman, Mr. Yogieraj Dass and other members of the NDC.

During the meeting, Minister Indar addressed concerns, raised by residents, pertaining to electricity, drainage, water quality and pressure, crime, noise nuisance and land titling.

The Minister was told that some 75 farmers have been attempting to uplift land titles, for some time now, in Belle East. To this, he explained that he will discuss the matter with the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Zulfikar Mustapha for an intervention. Meanwhile, with regards to the water pressure and quality, Minister Indar said he will relate this matter to the Minister of Housing and Water.

Another issue that Minister Indar said he would relate to one of his colleagues, was the need for a community playground. The need for a recreational facility was endorsed by all the villagers who attended the meeting. They stressed that their children are turning to illicit activities, as a result of the lack of a recreational facility in the area.

Minister Indar also met with a senior rank of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) in Region 3, after the meeting, to address the noise nuisance, being caused by bikers in the area. According to the residents, the bikers would patrol the area with their loud motorcycles and interrupt the school children who are now forced to take their studies online.

On the note of studies, the Public Works Minister urged the gathering to take advantage of the Government’s Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) Scholarships. The Minister also encouraged those in attendance to take their Covid-19 Vaccine, as the situation is becoming intense around the World.
