Minister Croal to provide relief for flood-affected Mocha-Arcadia farmers

Minister of Housing and Water, Hon. Collin Croal engaging CH&PA’s Deputy Director of Projects, Mr. Intakab Inderjeet as they assess the situation in Mocha-Arcadia

Minister of Housing and Water, Hon. Collin Croal has pledged to provide relief to flood-affected farmers of Mocha-Arcadia within the next 24 hours.

The Minister visited the community on Wednesday to assess the situation.

He said his Ministry received complaints that ongoing road works in the nearby housing scheme had caused some blockages, resulting in flooding.  Immediate action was taken to remedy the situation.

“They said the ongoing work that we have here by Ministry of Housing Central Housing and Planning Authority [CH&PA] with the road work connection, that there have been some blockages, so I came to see first-hand.

What we wish you assured now is that we will be putting some more tubings for the passage of the water.”

Minister Croal said Minister of Public Works, Hon. Bishop Juan Edghill provided five tubes, which would be installed. Based on assessments from the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority, this will allow the water to drain off the farmlands.

CH&PA’s Deputy Director of Projects, Mr. Intakab Inderjeet

CH&PA’s Deputy Director of Projects, Mr. Intakab Inderjeet said every effort is being made to address the situation.

“The rainfall is causing the level of the water in the canals and on the land to raise… Although we would have put in some temporary tubes to alleviate the flooding, they seem to be a bit inadequate so we’re going to … increase the capacity by placing in more tubes to allow that water to flow,” he said.
