– youths form council to liaise with Ministry
Albouystown youths have formed a Community Development Council (CDC) which will liaise with the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development to undertake more enhancement and other projects in their ward.
The youths embarked on the initiative on the advice of Minister, Hon. Nigel Dharamlall, who complimented their enthusiasm when he and his team went to inspect the works on Monday afternoon. Minister Dharamlall said the initiative is in keeping with President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s commitment to push enhancement in the country.
“There has been tremendous transformation to this community. We are very happy that the residents came out to get Albouystown updated. One of the things we have always push for as a Government, is that we have to enhance our city and we have also said unequivocally that we have to get people employed in our communities and this is one of the exercises we have done to do so.”
Minister Dharamlall added that the Government has noted residents’ involvement in this project and it will continue to support the community’s development. This, he said, will help to advance its objective to remove the stigma attached to the South Georgetown ward.
“I would like to see greater institutional provided to this area and we will work with the CDC so that they can be the-go-between to ensure that more jobs are created, more intervention are pursued as well as more projects being implemented in this community.”

The Minister also inspected some projects in the community spearheaded by the previous administration and lamented their incompletion.
Resident, Mr. Shevin Anthony Prosper, said he became involved in the initiative in 2016, under the Coalition, and the community did not benefit from any assistance.
“They said that they would have clean it (drains) every year, but fail to do so. For this place to look the way it is now, constant maintenance is needed. Before, when it was raining, we would be flood out. So, I thank the PPP/C Government for what they have done here and will continue because they are here for all Guyanese not Indian or Black, but all Guyanese to make a better Guyana for us,” he said.
Mr. Prosper added that the PPP/C Government has provided the young people with jobs during a season where money is needed.
Another resident, Mrs. Anchinalu Cannings, said she is participating in the exercise simply to restore the community to its former glory, when there was no flooding or other challenges.
“I would like to thank the Government for staying true to their words,” she said.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Ministries of Public Works and Local Government and Regional Development.
