THE LATE RETIRED DENTAL NURSE, PATRICIA DANIEL-STEPHEN
POPULARLY KNOWN AS ‘AUNTY PAT’ OR ‘SISTER PAT’ WAS LAID TO REST on
Thursday in her beloved Linden community.
Her sudden passing has shaken the bauxite-mining community, including the healthcare sector
where she spent the majority of her adulthood as an employee. To be exact, Daniels-Stephens
spent a generation, 40 years, first as a regular nurse, then as a Dental Nurse.
‘Aunty Pat’ was the mother of two daughters: Kendra Fiedtkou, one of them, said her highly-
religious mother was surrogate to a multitude of other children because of her penchant to
parenting and educating voluntarily.
Kendra admitted that Mother’s Day 2021 would be devastating for the household. The many
fond memories she left can’t compensate for the empty chair that would stare them Sunday.
www.aroundtheregions.com spoke to several Lindeners for perspectives on the popular, late
retired dental nurse many remember for her professionalism and great sense of humour.
Retired Deputy Regional Executive Officer (DREO) of Region Ten, Ms. Maylene Stephen, said
she knew Daniels-Stephens personally, professionally and privately.
“She was always approachable and I think that is what people loved about her. There was never
any animosity regardless of the situation…she will definitely be missed,” Stephen reminisced.
Apostle Valerie Patterson-Yearwood referred to her as a stalwart who contributed enormously to
public service in the bauxite-mining municipality.
She “didn’t play church but shared a true reflection of what Christianity should be,” Patterson-
Yearwood recalled.
She said though the late dental nurse retired more than five years ago she was still very active in
the community.
The entire Region Ten community and those that would have interacted with ‘Sis Pat’ sometime
in their lives, will certainly miss her and while its understandably difficult for her family and
close friends, the religious Minister urged them to remain steadfast and dedicated in their faith
and determination towards continuing serving God.
“Sis Pat loved the lord and ensure that she brought her children up that way. If there is nothing
else that she has left with her children and other family members, is an example of how they
should live their lives, being of service to the ordinary and a passion for serving God,” Patterson-
Yearwood said.
Meanwhile, former Alliance For Change (AFC) Region Ten parliamentarian, Mr. Audwin
Rutherford, said her conservative demeanor was a magnet for Lindeners. Rutherford lauded her
highly professional service to the community, noting she was “a huge asset” to the society.
“She was a good servant to society, that I know…she was greatly respected and admired,”
Rutherford said, counselling Guyanese to eulogise each other while they are still alive.
The 65-year-old late Daniels-Stephens spent most of her professional career at the Linden
Hospital Complex (LHC).
Her two children are also successful adults: Kendra is in the education sector, teaching at Linden
Foundation Secondary School and Patrice a well-known caterer operating her own business,
Kifalmo’s Treats.
The late Daniels-Stephens was also the grandmother of six.
