SEVERAL LINDEN ENTERPRISE NETWORK (LEN) STAFF DEMAND THE
REMOVAL of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tannizia Gasper condemning her indecorous
attitude towards subordinates.
On condition of anonymity, some LEN staff detailed her callousness to them; growing
contemptuous attitude; and refusal to give a listening ear when they attempt to vent their daily
personal frustrations.
They cite unhappiness with the Gasper’s reluctance to introduce a rotation system although staff
numbers have climbed. The LEN staff blamed their current hardships under the CEO on the
previous Boards of Directors reluctant to take action against Gaspar despite their frustrations.
“This government and the previous administration have failed us significantly. But what we are
going through now is a hell hole, as the current CEO is ineffective (and) inefficient, and because
we are predominantly blacks working here, (she) seems to be trying to impress her bosses in
Georgetown by pressuring us as much as she can,” a visibly upset employee complained.
They claimed since the change of administration in August 2020, the Irfaan Ally administration
has given the entity no funding worsening their struggles. They told www.aroundtheregions.com
that three of them have been tasked to try get outstanding monies owed by tenants and borrowers
of loams.
It is from this, that the 22 LEN employee are paid.
“Its three persons who hit the streets everyday trying to get those persons who owe LEN to pay.
Those monies collected are used to pay our salaries. At the moment, none of us is able to get
leave passage and gratuity owed to us. When we asked, we are told that an audit is taking place
and after the audit a decision will be made. This, is highly unfair,” one employee explained.
Another pointed out that LEN is the only state agency throughout Guyana that despite the
removal of the Board, the new government has not appointed a new board or has injected any
funds into the agency.
“All the other agencies in this country have been receiving monies, but we are told that if we are
going to continue receiving our salaries, payments in terms of rent and loan repayment need to
be collected. This is truly unfair to us, and to know that a government that promised to be fair
and equal to all is doing this. is unbelievable,” another employee echoed.
Close to tears another LEN employee observed: “Many of us have families with other expenses
like mortgage and other bills. Every day, we go home not knowing what to expect from the next
day. There are many employees who risk their lives each day going out trying to secure
outstanding monies but the collection amount is rapidly declining.”
“Unfortunately, the CEO doesn’t go out there. She doesn’t have an appreciation for the
challenges and dangers that we face each day. All she can think about is getting the money,” the
employee said.
Another said they have “literally begged the CEO” to protect staff from rising COVID numbers
in the bauxite mining municipality, but their requests have fallen on deaf ears.
“Gasper is not interested in anyone but herself. That is why all the employees are pursuing other
avenues in securing new jobs. No one wants to stay there, at least under her. It’s evident that the
government has no care and concern for us because, I guess, we are from Linden,” an employee
declared sarcastically.
LEN could have been spared its current economic crisis if the previous Board had removed
Gaspar, based on recommendation of its predecessor, and launched investigations into
allegations of financial irregularities, complaining staff told this media house.
“The previous Board of Directors failed the staff as they could have looked at the bigger picture
and relieve the CEO as the evidence of financial irregularities and other failures (were obvious).
But, because of political affiliation, her interest was protected in the place of the employees’
welfare. Now this government is spiting the entire Linden and the (LEN) employees by
pressuring us to get outstanding monies owed while not putting in a single cent since taking
office.”
Sadly, Linden is being made a football by both governments,” the employee emphasised.
