The wife of popular pastor, Selwyn Sills, Leah, died suddenly. She was fifty five years old.
News of her death spread quickly throughout Upper Demerara (Region Ten) and its bauxite-
mining capital, Linden plunging residents into deep grief.
Many expressed sorrow about Leah Sills death and sent condolences to her family through their
Social Media accounts.
Sills complained of feeling unwell and was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) and
died while receiving medical attention.
“It appears as though she had a massive heart attack,” a source told www.aroundtheregions.com
“This was an evidently very popular women in her early 50s who died without any warning and
the pain is immense, severe and unbearable for us ‘Lindeners’ because she was loved by
everyone,” an inconsolable resident said.
The late pastor’s wife was also always approachable and helpful.
“She never showed disdain for everyone as she was always willing to help in whatever way
possible and we can only imagine the hurt and pain that her husband is experiencing as this has
many speechless,” another grieving resident said.
A number of prominent religious, political and community leaders in the mining community also
used social media to praise her contribution over the decades.
“This is certainly a great shock to many of us because it’s a massive blow to Linden and those
who knew Pastor Sills and his wife as she was certainly loved by many,” former MP and
Government Minister, Mrs. Valerie Patterson-Yearwood said. Patterson-Yearwood is personally
hurt by the news as she will miss the woman who she personally admired for her Christian
dedication and help to the impoverished community.
“She was a very quiet, simple but great woman of God. She was really a role model to many
women who tried to emulate her,” Patterson-Yearwood reminisced.
“She was respected by all of Linden who came into contact with her. This was a woman who
was a behind the scenes powerhouse. Therefore, on behalf of my family, the Flourishing Place
Apostolic Ministry and the Women of Linden our deepest and most sincere condolences,”
Patterson-Yearwood recalled.
MP Mr. Jermaine Figueira who has deep affection for the Sills family is numbed by her sudden
passing.
“The most humble, simple, kindhearted, just an amazing, awesome and phenomenal human
being. I sincerely ask you all to pray for the Sills family in this very difficult time, they need it,
the community needs it,” MP Figueira said.
“Hold strong my friend and brother, (Pastor) Selwyn Sills God is in charge. Much love, she truly
impacted on the lives of many,” the parliamentarian encouraged.
Meanwhile, former Linden Mayor, boxing promoter and sports journalist, Mr. Carwyn Holland
in a Facebook post said: “My heart breaks with the passing of this stellar woman of God and for
my brother Pastor Sills. This is quite a blow. I pray that the grace, peace and comfort of
Almighty God will overshadow Pastor Sills and his family. May her soul rest in peace.”
WWW.aroundtheregions.com joins with the thousands of persons who have expressed their
condolences to the Sills family. It is our hope that Pastor Sills and the rest of the home circle will
find strength during this very difficult time.
