Chief Co-operatives Development Officer, Ms. Debbie Persaud has installed a six-member
Interim Management Committee (IMC) at the Guyana National Credit Union Limited
(GNCUL)
The committee comprising Ms. Onyekachukwu Eastman-Onwuzirike, the Officer in Charge;
Mr. Garfield Sargeant; Ms. Shabana Omar; Mr. Earl Morris; Ms. Penelope Layne-Lewis; and
Mr. Kellawan Lall is expected to last until January 30, 2022 according to a Ministry of
Labour statement.

The IMC’s installation ceremony took place in the Labour Ministry’s boardroom at 82
Brickdam, Georgetown in the presence of Labour Minister, Mr. Joseph Hamilton and the
Ministry's Permanent Secretary (PS), Mr. Bishram Kuppen.
Among the functions of the newly-installed IMC committee are preparing a new structure for
the GNCUL that would aid in the resuscitation of the co-operative movement in Guyana;
resuscitating all regional unions for the support of the co-operative societies; advancing the
promotion of new co-operative societies of all types; and resuscitating existing coops that can
be once again made viable.
Additionally, the Ministry stressed that the committee will work together with the
Department of Co-operative Societies to ensure all members receive training on the Co-
operative and Anti- Money Laundering Act 2009.
