Directors of the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL) this week lauded Chief Executive Officer (ag) Mr Colvin Heath-London, for shifting the government’s holding company from the periphery to the centre of Guyanese consciousness.
Chairman of NICIL’s Board of Directors, Mr Grantley Walrond, praised Heath-London’s transformative work at NICIL noting that it has helped burnished the holding company’s image at home and abroad notwithstanding the myriad challenges in its path.
“Heath-London continues to demonstrate that he is unique in his perspective… and most importantly he is very innovative, determined and effective, while he continues to involve the staff, thus making it a team effort,” Dr Walrond said.
According to Walrond, a trained geologist, NICIL’s Board “continues to express significant confidence and faith in the leadership that is being provided” by the CEO (ag) who has a cadre of young professionals helping promote the institution’s initiatives.
“With the great abilities and skills being exhibited by the staff at NICIL the Board remains confident and comfortable that greater achievements are certainly in the making,” Walrond forecasted.
Heath-London and his team are delivering the Board’s vision, Walrond said crediting this to their work ethic, efficiency and ability to get things done.
“NICIL understands that every Guyanese is a stakeholder in this process and we are cognisant that they are important stakeholders so the Board, with the support and action of Mr Heath-London, will continue to ensure that the public is appreciated and recognised through our actions. The young people must be given an opportunity and through the Board, we…will continue to lend valuable and critical support so that they can continue demonstrating their ability and skills in getting things done,” the NICIL Board Chairman assured.
Heath-London visionary abilities were demonstrated in the regularisation of squatters in Upper Demerara/Berbice (Region Ten) in which some 900 persons received instruments entitling them to occupy the house lots. Both Directors and the public praised NICIL’s efforts in making this finally happen.
“Almost every young person will tell you that they are mostly interested inland as that is one of the burning issues that we encounter whenever having a discussion. Therefore, the approach by Heath-London to have residents regularised in Region Ten is an excellent initiative that we from the Board should commend him for,” Dr Walrond noted.
Continuing he said: “However, we are determined and committed to providing the required support and assistance in ensuring that the NICIL head is supported and provided with the required resources and enabling environment to continue executing his responsibilities and mandate in the most professional manner,” Walrond promised.
“I am happy to state that we are of the firm view that NICIL is chartering a very impressive and well-chartered course. The public is assured of continued growth and development because our team from the Board and management fully understand what has to be done,” Dr Walrond said.
