A MINISTRY OF HEALTH TEAM HAS TRAVELLED TO MORUCA, Barima/Waini
(Region One) to investigate the circumstances following the death of a 13-year shortly after
getting the second shot of the Pfizer vaccine.
The child received the second dose of the vaccine around 14:00 hours (2 pm) and after no visible
external effects, was sent home some 20 minutes after taking the jab.
However, about two hours after, the child fainted and was rushed to the Kumaka Hospital and
was subsequently pronounced dead.
A ministry of health statement said the cause of death is unknown at this time.
The ministry’s statement said Senior Pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh, who is expected to be in
Moruca today will conduct the post mortem to determine the cause of the child’s death.
The ministry is appealing to citizens to stay away from speculation and await the results of the
post mortem and other-related investigations.
Health ministry officials from the capital and Region One will provide all necessary support to
the grieving family and the wider community of Kamwatta.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, and we pray they have the strength to cope
with the (sudden) loss of a loved one” the ministry statement said.
