Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Hon. Mohabir Anil Nandlall examining the transport produced by Mr. Abdool Azim

Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Hon. Mohabir Anil Nandlall today met squatters at Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara to address the controversy over the land they have been occupying for several years.

The four acres of land occupied by the squatters are owned by Mr. Rafiek Baksh. His power of attorney, Mr. Abdool Azim, was present at today’s meeting and produced a transport for the land.

However, the Attorney General said he will work with both sides to resolve the issue.

One of the decisions taken was to have surveyors from the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission identify the parameters for the land covered by the transport. That process will commence on Monday.

The Attorney General said he will meet Mr. Azim to find a solution to the matter. A commitment was also made to have another meeting with the residents on November 8.

Minister within the Housing and Water Ministry, Hon. Susan Rodrigues was also part of today’s visit and used the opportunity to register several of the squatters for house lots.
