Former Watooka Guest House Manager’s son laid to rest after emotional service

The former Manager of the Watooka Guest house, Linden Murray who lost his son to a
vehicular accident two weeks ago was laid to rest in a moving emotional funeral earlier today

At an emotional service a large number of persons were in attendance which included colleagues
of the father, the son’s four children, his wife Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) President Hilbert
Foster and other senior cricketing officials and regional officials.

The 38-year-old Sherwin Murray of Number 43 Village, Corentyne, Berbice lost his life after the
motorcycle he was riding crashed into a parked truck. The accident had occurred along the
Number 47 Public Road, Corentyne.

The younger Murray who is the eldest son of Linden Murray was reportedly proceeding north on
the western carriageway, reportedly at a fast rate of speed, when he lost control of his motorcycle
and collided with the front of the motor lorry that was parked on the western parapet.

Speaking to www.aroundtheregions.com Linden described his sin as someone who had the
ability to light up a room regardless of how dark it was. He said like him his son had an
unwavering passion for sports, and this was demonstrated in his passion, determination,
commitment and discipline that he demonstrated in the game of cricket.

“Growing up he was always someone who loved sports but also he was also a comedian as he
made light of anything that seemed stressful or disturbing. I can say coming to grips with his
death has not been achieved and it's very hard,” he said.

President of the Barbie Cricket Board, Hilbert Foster made an emotional speech at the funeral
service where he was almost moved to tears. He said that the entire Berbice Cricket fraternity
will surely miss him. He praised the contributions made thus far by the young cricketer who he
described as leaving during his prime.

“The BCB will work towards improving and bettering the standard and quality of cricket as part
of Sherwin’s memory. Therefore, I can say that while the footsteps he left will be very hard to

fill in the Upper Corentyne cricket fraternity, we are confident that his contributions will never
be forgotten,” Foster said.

The BCB President gave a commitment on behalf of the Board that they will be supporting
Sherwin’s four children each year with educational supplies. He said further that a 20/20 Upper
Corentyne cricket competition will be organized in honour of the dead player. He said that the
Upper Corentyne Cricketer of the Year would be named in honour of the dead Murray.

He reminded family and friends of the dead cricketer to find solace in his memory while the
older Murray thanked all for offering support and words of comfort during what he said has been
an exceptionally difficult period for them.

The elder Manager managed the Watooka Guest House after the Guest House was not turning
over profitable figures. He was brought to manage the Guest House as part of NICIL’s
restructuring efforts because of his successful management of the Skeldon Heritage Hotel.
Several employees had praised his innovative and creative style of management.
