The Education Ministry today received over 1000 pieces of furniture from Food for the Poor
(Guyana) Inc. (FFTP) to be distributed to schools across Guyana to benefit students and teachers.
In total, 41 bookcases, 762 chairs, 461 student desks, 12 teacher desks, 34 file cabinets, 61 tables
and one storage cabinet were handed over today. Receiving the donation on behalf of the
Ministry was the Education Minister, Priya Manickchand.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FFTP, Mr. Kent Vincent said that he looks forward to
continued collaboration between the organization and the Education Ministry to make the lives
of both learners and teachers better.
Manickchand expressed similar sentiments and noted that the two entities should highlight
priority areas to make the established partnership even more meaningful.
She said that the items will be stored at the Education Ministry’s Book Distribution Unit (BDU)
until such time that they are distributed to the schools that need them most.
Also present at the handing over today was the Coordinator of the Book Distribution Unit, Ms.
Darshini Balac and Ms. Jonelle DeViera, FFTP’s Public Relations Officer.
