Flood Relief Supplies distributed to Region flood victims

Stewartville/Cornelia Ida NDC

The Regional Executive Office (REO) of Essequibo Islands-West Demerara (Region 3) today
received 3000 cleaning hampers from the Civil Defence Commission (CDC). It was disclosed
that these supplies were then delivered to the Uitvlugt/Tuschen Neighborhood Democratic
Council (RDC), and the Stewartville/Cornelia Ida NDC under the direction of the Regional
Executive Officer, Mr. Jagnarine Sauwack and Regional Chairman, Mr. Mohamed Ayube.
The regional officials noted that hampers are part of an intervention by the Cabinet Level Flood
Prevention Taskforce to alleviate the impacts of residents in the Region 3 communities. It was
revealed that mobile pumps are being situated at strategic locations, and the desilting and
cleaning of drains and canals are underway to facilitate faster water run-off.

Further, persons are encouraged to remain vigilant and cautious, and to report any impacts to
their local authorities or the National Emergency Monitoring System (NEMS) on 600-7500 or
