UPPER Takutu/Upper Essequibo (Region Nine) are excited to welcome Guyana’s first Lady,
Mrs. Arya Ali. Who will officially tour the sprawling community for a one-day visit tomorrow
www.aroundtheregions.com has learned.
During her visit Mrs. Ali will meet and discuss a wide range of issues facing the mainly 16,000
mainly Macushi, Wapishana and Waiwai tribes inhabiting the Northern, South-Central and Deep-South
Savannah's.
Mrs. Ali is also expected to participate in the distribution of toys and hampers to residents as part
of Government’s efforts in reaching out to a number of vulnerable families.
“Residents are very excited to meet the First Lady because we have only read and heard a lot
about her and what she has been doing and I think most persons are hoping to get an opportunity
to finally meet this amazing woman,” an elated resident said.
The wife of the President has been busy reaching out to several communities executing projects
dear to her.
“The First Lady is clear on what she wants to get done and residents are happy to meet her. The
news of her visit has sent excitement throughout the entire Region Nine as we can barely wait to
meet this very beautiful, talented and caring woman,” another resident said.
Regional Vice Chairman, Mr. Bertie Xavier confirmed tomorrow’s visit.
“Yes, the First Lady will be in Region Nine on Friday December 18 for an official visit. I am not
sure as to what her visit for the day will entail, but she will be here is what I can confirm,” he
said.
The First Lady is also expected to visit a number of other Regions in the lead up to
Christmas. She will also provide hampers and toys to several families suffering due to the
economic impact of the contagious and deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
