SENIOR LEADERS OF THE RULING PEOPLES PROGRESSIVE PARTY (PPP) will
reject the disrespectful utterances of Rudy Small, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of
Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) Councillor Norris King said.
King, the representative of the opposition coalition A Partnership for National Unity, Alliance
For Change (APNU+AFC) on the Upper Demerara/Berbice (Region Ten) Regional Democratic
Council (RDC), is familiar with President, Dr. Irfaan Ali, Vice President, Bharrat Jagdeo and
Health Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony when they were youth representatives for the two political
titans in Guyana.
He said the PPP trio will never tolerate misogynistic behaviour exhibited by Small.
“I am not a PPP supporter but I have told persons that I don’t believe President Ali would defend
such a position; I don’t believe Vice President, Jagdeo would, and I have known Minister Frank
Anthony for years as we both attended several youth’ leaders conferences together for different
sides of the isle for young people, and I know the Minister of Health would not defend that level
of ‘incest’,” King said.
King told www.aroundtheregions.com exclusively, he is certain that several prominent
government officials are disturbed by the CEO’s sexist statements, noting that it is clear the CEO
lacks in-depth managerial expertise and should not be placed in such delicate areas of authority
in the future.
According to King, Small’s statement is a direct assault on the moral fabric of decent families in
the healthcare sector and should not be condoned.
“However, whatever way the government chooses to deal with it is another issue, but we must be
able to recognise that nurses would have complained that loose irresponsible statements were
made, decent people have had to endure comments from their husbands when they are about to
leave home on the 1pm to 9 pm shift and are told that that they hope they are not one of the
nurses who signs in but disappears after and that. It is the extent to which it is damaging our
family fabric,” King said.
He continued, “We need to see it for what it is! It’s not only a total and blatant disrespect for our
hard-working frontline women workers, but also a direct attack on the fabric of families.”
King joined the swelling chorus of dissenting voices against Small for holding families in
contempt. He is hopeful that the former CEO learns from this experience.
“I felt that families were disrespected. Myself and the Vice Chairman met the CEO over a month
ago to pay a courtesy call because of the plethora of complaints (against him) that we had
received. After talking and him complaining about how some Norris King never chose to come
and have a discussion with him, I informed him at the end of the meeting that all the comments
he made regarding Norris King that I was the individual. He also uttered similar comments
regarding the nurses sleeping with ‘sweet man’ and the VC can verify this. However, we had not
expect hearing him utter such words so we didn’t tape the meeting, but I did tell him that he
should be very careful making such comments. It was no surprise when we heard the recording
of him. After reading the story without even hearing the recording, we knew that it was true
because he made the exact comments,” the Councillor said.
King pointed out th at because of Small’s loose tongue, it was just a matter of time before his
sluttish comments become public.
Had Small been contrite, the results would have been different, King predicted.
