Dockery set to present her UN credentials

AMBASSADOR NERYS DOCKERY eagerly anticipates presenting her credentials as the next St Kitts and Nevis Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) in New York, USA.

“After relocating with my family this past Sunday, my first week in office has been a whirlwind of activity. I have had the pleasure of conducting one-on-one meetings with staff conveying the new thrust and direction that would govern the strategic objectives of our Permanent Mission,” Dockery said in a recent Facebook post.

At 42, Dockery is among the youngest from the independent, twin-Island state appointed to the prestigious UN post following in the footsteps of that country’s former Deputy Prime Minister, Sam Condor, and ex-government Minister, Ian ‘Patches’ Liburd.

I am “looking forward with excitement to the ceremony to present my credentials to the UN Secretary General next week and beginning a series of outreach to get to know my fellow PR colleagues and being introduced to some key personalities and agency heads within the UN system,” she admitted in the social media post.

She explained further: “The United Nations is where the world meets. I intend to do my utmost to ensure that St. Kitts and Nevis fully maximises its presence and participation by pursuing ambitious initiatives aimed at strengthening international solidarity and multilateralism.”

If the 39-year-old Federation was to pursue its transformative agenda, then the work that she and her staff will be pursuing must be beneficial, she reiterated.

“This is of vital importance if St. Kitts and Nevis is to effectively pursue its transformative agenda, address its development challenges and enhance prosperity at home and across human endeavor,” Dockery’s post explained.

The newly-appointed UN Permanent Representative comes with a wealth of public and private sector experiences.

She was Financial Advisor for Sagicor Life Inc. for the Eastern Caribbean from February 2021 for one year.

She was Senior Support Services Officer for the Faculty of Continuing Education and Corporate Training, Seneca College between 2016 and 2017, and also served as the Senior Foreign Service Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ms. Dockery was also lead coordinator for various high-level events hosted by that Foreign Ministry and the Office of the Prime Minister and spearheaded organising several regional summits and state visits of Heads of State and Government.

She honed her considerable professional skills by serving as Executive Director/Owner of Finesse Consulting Services.

Dockery specialises in international relations (IR) and diplomacy; issues management; diplomatic protocol and etiquette; negotiations; Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); consultation, presentation and facilitation; multi-stakeholder collaboration; grant writing and social media.

She is also a speech writer, a project management and leadership and a media relations expert.

As a career diplomat, while working in St Kitts and Nevis, Ambassador Dockery conceptualised the Ministry’s first annual Public Lecture Series and Honorary Consuls Retreat. She had drafted the Ministry’s Handbook on Protocol and Etiquette and facilitated various training programmes for government ministries and departments and was co-chair and Rapporteur for the National Implementation Taskforce to Review the country’s flagship Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme.

She began her new post just over a week ago at her Manhattan office and revealed she has so far held several one-on-one meetings with staff and other diplomats.

Other activities included “bilateral courtesy calls with respect to upcoming elections on major UN councils; attended the grand reception in honour of Taiwan’s 111th National Day celebrations; participated in the high-level talks commemorating the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the India-UN Development Partnership Fund,”

In her high-flying career, Dockery has served under the Prime Ministers Dr Denzil Douglas, Dr. Timothy Harris and now, Dr Terrance Drew.
