THE ‘GRIM REAPER’ has been harvesting young lives in the Thomas family this year. First
it was Marcus Julius Thomas 39, a minibus driver, murdered in his yard. Then his younger sister,
Marie Thomas-Pryce 37, a nursing assistant (NA) who was attached to the Ministry of
Amerindian Affairs. COVID-19 took the life of the dedicated healthcare worker.
The back-to-back deaths of the two siblings in the Thomas’ family were savage kicks to their
collective gut Marvani Thomas-Percival, another sister told www.arounddtheregions.com.
As usual, surviving family members are leaning on their steadfast faith and confidence in God to
see them through each painful day. The two sudden deaths have devastated their aging parents.
Marie was the glue which held the Thomas clan together and with her sudden demise….
“Daddy is expected to take a surgery and it was Marie and me who were up and down with him
planning for the surgery. We are all lost for words and strength over her death. It was she who
held us all together as we sought to deal with our brother’s death and whatever took place within
the family. She was the one who dealt with things to ensure that they were taken care of,”
Marvani said.
“My mother and father are elderly, and our biggest concern remains about them. Everybody else
is trying to remain strong for each other. We cannot quit. We can’t give up at this stage, because
many persons are depending upon us including our children,” the still-shaken Marvani said.
She reminisced on her brother’s death from multiple stab wounds from known persons who
attempted to kill him last year. He forgave them and refused to pursue legal action.
“My brother was killed in a very cruel manner, and Marie was the one who witnessed his post
mortem and had made all of his funeral arrangements. She was the strongest. Marcus was very
passionate about what he did as he loved bus. While growing up he always wanted to own his
own minibus. He was very peaceful as he would walk away from any fight,” she recalled.
A triangular love affair led to the demise of the father of seven.
Marvani praised the work of police investigators into a very complicated case involving unlawful
carnal knowledge.
In retrospect, “my sister enjoyed being a mother to her three children and a wife to her husband.
She worked because she loved responsibility (and) wanted to play her part in the home. Her
husband and children were her world along with us, her siblings,” Marvani stated.
“Marie had a heart of gold. She was a comforter. She would do anything for you, and
whatever you wanted you could have gotten as she loved helping while leaving herself
undone,” Marvani said tearfully.
Sleep on beloved Marcus and Marie!!
