Cracks widen Among APNU+AFC Region Four Councillors

PNCR General Secretary, Amna Ally.

CRACKS ARE WIDENING AMONG COUNCILLORS OF A PATNERSHIP FOR
NATIONAL UNITY, ALLIANCE FOR CHANGE (APNU+AFC) coalition which lost the
2020 National and Regional polls.
This became even more evident following the sudden resignation, with immediate effect, of
Demerara/Mahaica (Region Four) APNU+AFC Councillor, Mr. Deodat Muridall Tillack because
of reasons beyond his control.
Widening fissures within the main opposition are also blamed on the autocratic style of
APNU+AFC Regional Chairman, former army officer, Mr. Daniel Seeram and the intransigence
of party Secretary, former government minister, Ms. Amna Ally.
Several Councillors have had enough of Seeram, whose behaviour remind them of an army drill
sergeant. Some plan to switch allegiance to the ruling Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C)
government because of the Chairman’s and the party Secretary’s stubborn defence of him.
“As such, many persons are looking at supporting a political party which seems to be aware and
cognizant of what it wants to achieve. The APNU+AFC sadly is a lost party and more are
expected to make their exit,” a party supporter admitted.
Another former Party member and Member of Parliament (MP) believes that a significant
number of persons will tender their resignations, while the support base of the party is continuing
to decrease significantly.
“The party has not sought to repair some of the damage that it suffered after the polls. Instead of
seeking to rebuild, they have found themselves caught up in a bitter leadership struggle and this

has resulted in many feeling ignored, neglected and frustrated over their actions. While they were
in government, they made numerous mistakes and unfortunately, they are continuing these
mistakes out of office,” the former legislator said.
On the issue of RDC member Tillack’s resignation is a smokescreen paving the way for the
religious figure to cross the floor. Insiders told www.aroundtheregions.com that Seeram is aware
that his toxic actions have frustrate Pandit Tillack and others forcing many strongly considering
switching support to the ruling PPP/C.
“Not many persons have any faith in the AFC and more so, with the APNU. The APNU is a
completely disorganised political party (and) were selfish in their dealings and handling of
national issues. There is no doubt that they have not learned from the severe defeat that they
suffered at the Regional and Local Elections in 2020,” a disgruntled supporter told this media
outfit.
Tillack in his resignation letter to the party expressed his “heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity
that I was given to serve the party, which I did based on my convictions and those convictions
were deeply rooted in the principles of and for social cohesion and I will continue to advance the
cause for Guyana to socially cohesive nation.”
“Currently I am a Councillor for the Regional Democratic Council Region # 4 and since there’s
no Recall Legislation…I wish to continue to serve the people of Region #4 and by extension my
country (Guyana) until I vacate the said seat,” he said.
He added, “Please accept my best wishes for the party’s future endeavours, and should my spirit
be moved to publicly support or endorse any political party, I will do so as my conscious
dictates.”
Many firmly believe that the vote of the former PNC member towards the PPP on regional
matters will tip the balance in favour of the PPP/C enabling the ruling party, for the first time in
local history, controlling the most populated Region of the country, always won by the main
opposition PNC.

www.aroundtheregions.com has learned there are by the party to counter any move to give the
ruling party the ascendancy in the Region Four RDC.

Attempts to reach Pandit Tillack was futile.
