COVID kills Education official

Pandit Rajin Lallaram

A well-known Mahaica/Berbice (Region Five) Ministry of Education official is the latest victim
of the dreaded CORONA VIRUS.
Pandit Rajin Lallaram, 36, a Guidance and Counselling Officer in the Region Five Education
Department, died Thursday at the Infectious Diseases Hospital at Liliendaal, according to
confirmed reports.
His death rattled family and friends and his Region Five Ministry of Education colleagues.
www.aroundtheregions.com learnt from Ministry of Education sources that some close relatives
of the late Lallaram also tested positive for the deadly virus which has so far claimed the lives of
some 350 Guyanese.

The sources said the relatives of the dead man however have reportedly recovered.

Ministers of Government, Regional Democratic Council (RDC) officials of Region Five, the
Guyana Central Arya Samaj, the Guyana Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha and varied other
groupings expressed their condolences and shock publicly of the education official’s death to his
relatives via their Facebook accounts.

They all agreed that Lallaram was hardworking., committed, dedicated and humble, with a
passion for development and would go the extra mile to help those in need.

Said Local Government and Regional Development Minister, Nigel Dharmalall via social media:
“My condolences go out to the family and friends of our brother and friend Pandit Rajin

Lallaram. His contributions to humanity and community development are legendary. We have
lost a great brother who has been called for higher service. May his soul rest in peace”.

Education Minister, Priya Manickchand was, “Heartbroken today over the COVID 19 death of
36-year-old Pandit Rajin Lallaram, of the education department Region 5. This was a committed,
dedicated person with so much to offer. Our country is poorer for his passing. To his wife,
mother, sisters and many, many friends and to our colleagues in education, my deepest
condolences”.

RDC Five Information Officer, Sandie Ross reminisced: “Just over 7 months ago I congratulated
him on his appointment and shared a light moment in the office compound where he jokingly
mentioned ‘I'll send you my best photo to put on the RDC page for the introduction…. My last
interaction with this pleasant gentleman was at Bath Primary School during the Mobile
Vaccination Outreach where we spoke of the pandemic getting worse and persons needing to
take precautions. Little did I know that you will become a victim. Rest in peace Pandit.
Condolences to his family and friends”.
