‘Cocaine in aircraft’ Brazilians remanded to prison

MAGISTRATE ALEX MOORE THURSDAY REMANDED TO PRISON TWO
BRAZILIAN NATIONALS TO PRISON after their not guilty pleas to trafficking in cocaine
and entering Guyana illegally.
Salim Nobrega De Alimser, 65, and Andre Pereira, 30, gave not guilty pleas at the Springlands
Magistrate Court, East Berbice/Corentyne (Region Six) before Magistrate Moore, who read the
charges to them virtually.
The two Brazilian nationals were apprehended by local lawmen after their light aircraft with
some 450 Kilogrammes of cocaine was spotted at Orealla, a small Amerindian community on the
Corentyne River.
Police prosecutor, Orin Joseph, objecting to bail for the two Brazilians, said the accused
provided a video recording admitting ownership of the aircraft justifying his belief that the two
foreigners are flight risks.

The men are scheduled to be back in court on June 22.
On May 20, Region Six police found the foreign registered four-seat Bonaza Beechcraft that
illegally on a sand trail at Orealla. They arrested the two male suspects who were in the vicinity
at the time and conducted an initial search of the aircraft where they found what they suspected
to be cocaine.
They dispatched the Force’s SWAT Team along with ranks from the Guyana Defence Force
(GDF) and the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) to the site to intensify the probe.

illegal narcotics along with 2 Global Positioning Systems (GPS) equipment; 1 Radio Set; 3
Mobile Smart Phones; 2 Identification Cards and the Aircraft Registration Documents.
