Bryan Allicock returned As Regional Chairman

Reelected as Regional Chairman Mr. Bryan Allicock and newly elected Regional Vice Chairman, Mr. Bertie Xavier

New deputy sworn in

Regional Chairman Bryan Allicock was re-elected as the Regional Chairman for Region Nine to
serve another term. However, the region saw a new Regional Vice Chairman being sworn in.
The swearing in of Regional Councillors along with the election of a Regional Chairman and
Regional Vice Chairman took place yesterday (Monday) at the Amerindian Hostel in Lethem.
Among the several senior Regional and local leaders within the Region was Minister of Natural
Resources, Vickram Bharrat.
The twelve councilors that were sworn in saw nine being for the PPP side, while six was for the
APNU/AFC. Those elected as Councillors for the APNU/AFC was John Adams from Aishalton,
Tehanita Baretto from St. Ignatius, Marlon Edwards from Karassabai, Ken Grant from St
Ignatius and Lilian Joseph Cumberbatch from Lethem and George Nicholson from Tabitinga.
Those elected for the PPP were Vania Albert of Tiger Pond, Cyril Anthony of Parikwarinau,
Simeon Casimero of Aishalton, Jackson Joel from Yakarinta, Sharon John of Lethem, Roger
King of Tabatinga, Gerlene Micheal of Katoka while the Regional Chairman is Bryan Allicock
and the newly elected Regional Vice Chairman is Bertie Xavier of Wowetta.
This is the Regional Chairman’s second term, while Xavier is serving his first term as Regional
Vice Chairman. Xavier related that he served as a Councillor in 2015-20202, noting that he was
encouraged to get into politics after being on the sideline for several years. He said that several
villagers and friends recognized that he has a clot that he can contribute and bowing to their
persuasion he got actively into politics in 2013 and hasn’t looked back since. “I was encouraged
by several persons as they felt that I can meaningfully contribute not only to my community of
Wowetta biy ti the people of Region Nine and I consented and here I am today serving as the
Regional Vice Chairman,” an elated Xavier said.
Meanwhile, the Regional Chairman in addressing Councilors urged them to give of their best,
stressing that they were elected to serve the people and not for personal benefits.
Allicock stressed the need for all Councillors irrespective of whichever side of the political
divide that they are on to work for the goodwill of the people. He said that whatever plans the
various communities and villages, the Councillors must understand that they must work towards
making such a reality. “It is our responsibility to work for the common good of the people to
ensure that we can always take care of your concerns as Regional leaders,” Allicock was quoted
as saying.
