BREAKING…Three APNU Councillors backing NCM against RC Seeram

Daniel Seeram

THREE A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Councillors are prepared to support a vote of
no confidence against their colleague, controversial Regional Chairman, Daniel Seeram.
The Alliance For Change (AFC), one of the six political outfits in the coalition APNU+AFC, is
pushing the No Confidence Motion (NCM) to rid the largest of the 10 Administrative Regions of
the former Guyana Defence Force (GDF) soldier, allegedly running the Demerara/Mahaica
(Region Four) Regional Democratic Council (RDC) like the military.
The AFC sparked the beginning of the collapse and eventual toppling of the David Granger-led
APNU+AFC government when one of its legislators, backbencher Charrandass Persaud, sided
with the then opposition Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) in its NCM in December 2018.
Persaud was spirited out of the country back to Canada, where he was a citizen, and in March
this year, was appointed as Guyana’s High Commissioner to the Republic of India.
The AFC is also seeking to remove Regional Vice Chairman, Samuel Sandy from the post and is
expected to file another NCM to that effect.
Disgruntled opposition Councillors want to see the back of the very polemic Seeram.
“We cannot and are not prepared to continue working with him as he thinks that this is an army
and he is the General. It’s plain to see that because of his continued arrogance and ignorance
there will never be a common ground,” an APNU Councillor, speaking on conditions of
anonymity, said.
Other APNU Councillors who also spoke to this media house, www.aroundtheregions.com in
strict confidence, said Seeram is General Secretary of the People's National Congress (PNC)
Amna Ally’s puppet to “get her dirty work done.”

They hinted at an ongoing power struggle used by RC Seeram to deliberately sideline several
elected regional officials of the Region Four body whom he fears do not support Ally.
“This man was never a PNC (member). He turned up some years ago when the coalition was in
power and wants us to believe that he is a staunch party supporter over the years, but what he
fails to understand is, that we were in the struggle, we were in the trenches, we were the ones
who were victimized by the party that he once supported and worshipped so we will not tolerate
him operating the way that he has been any longer.”
Opposition RCs are impressed that AFC has the gumption to challenge the charade of Seeram
many described as “toxic, a bully, ineffective, inefficient, spiteful and woefully vindictive”.
APNU Councillors have confided that GS Amna Ally is using pressure tactics against them
threatening if they vote against Seeram, then they would be forced to resign from the RDC.
“To attempt to work along with Seeram is like trying to swallow a pill that will not be swallowed
and every time you attempt to, it hurts our throat. We the Regional Councillors of this region
continue to be hurt by a man who should not be a leader who evidently has an agenda and
unfortunately, some of my colleagues and I are not prepared to continue being abused by him,” a
Councillor stressed.
However, the APNU Councillors want secret voting in the NCM to maintain the mystery.
The AFC Councillors need support from the ruling PPP/C counterparts for the proposed NCM to
succeed.
“Regardless of which party persons voted for, they never voted for this level of (toxic)
leadership. While many may say that we are wrong to vote against our own, we have a
responsibility, first to the people of the region, to ensure that they are afforded
accountable, responsible and mature leadership,” a Councillor explained.
