For the past three years, more health centres have been constructed while additional schools were built to facilitate the rise in the population of both adults and children within the Better Hope/La Bonne Intention (LBI) Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC).
One of the teachers of Montrose Primary School along the East Coast of Demerara, Babita Dhanpaul has been teaching at the institution for the last 33 years.
Dhanpaul said she has seen a major transformation within the education sector which has made teaching even more fun for both teachers and pupils.
“I have seen the education system evolve over the years. With the present government sitting in office, we have textbooks in abundance and we have more furniture. Now we also have a resurfaced tarmac for the children to play on as well,” the primary educator stated.
She noted that just recently the school was rehabilitated with painting works done, new windows installed, and an extension of the building.
“The nursery school would have been at the primary school for many years. So, this nursery school that was recently built will ease the number of children that used to be in that building,” She explained
In regards to the healthcare system, NDC Chairman, Zaman Shaw highlighted that following the PPP/C Administration’s assumption to office in 2020, a few weeks after health interventions began in the area.
He said a letter was addressed to Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony who later visited the site where the newly constructed Better Hope Health Centre now stands.
“It is a good thing to see residents being able to access services easier…We did not have a health centre for several years. Back in the days, there was a dispensary that was controlled by GuySuco and of course that used to offer services to persons who were employed by the agency,” Shaw explained.
The development within these areas is a result of both the NDC and the government collaborating to achieve the same goal of improving the livelihood of all citizens.
