Former ‘Multi’ student Michael Benjamin was “devastated” by Saturday’s fire which partially
destroyed his Alma Mater, North Ruimveldt Multilateral School.
“Multi was the cream of crop in terms of high schools in Guyana. As a matter of fact, it’s the
only high school I attended after leaving Campbellville Government school. ‘Multi’ is the cream
of all schools so it’s very sad,” Benjamin said.
Benjamin recalled honing his boxing skills “in the corridors” of his alma mater and went on to
become one of Guyana’s most decorated boxers of the 90’s winning several local, regional and
international titles.
‘Benji’ served as President and Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the North Ruimveldt
Alumnus, and was on the scene with other former students witnessing part of his former school
up in flames.
They all wondered whether ‘Multi’ will be rebuilt
“I did speak to the President of the New York chapter this afternoon and they were in
meetings and asking us (in Guyana) to come together. From a personal point of view, it
hurts. I hope that there will be some amount of effort to have the school rebuilt,” ‘Benji’
said.
